Legislative Action
The mission of the Southwest California
Legislative Council (SWCLC) is to provide a basis for
the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce,
Murrieta Chamber of Commerce, and the Temecula Valley
Chamber of Commerce to act on regional, state and federal
government issues to secure a favorable and profitable
business climate for the region.
In the fall of 2004, the Temecula
Valley, Murrieta and Lake Elsinore Valley Chambers
of Commerce met to
develop a regional business advocacy coalition. Each
of the three chambers respective boards of directors
unanimously approved the concept of a regional coalition
to represent their individual government affairs operations.
The SWCLC is charged with representing
the interests of the three chambers business community’s
interests with regional, state and federal governments.
A 15
voting member board of directors meets monthly to make
decisions on behalf of the three chambers of commerce
individual business membership.
Each year, the SWCLC develops
its policy platform which serves as the foundation
for the SWCLC’s
continuing effort to improve the regional business
climate. Only legislative issues, that fall under the
policy platform and are in-line with SWCLC’s
mission, are considered as agenda items for action
from the SWCLC. Letters are sent to each legislator
or organization when SWCLC takes a position and are
also posted on its regional advocacy web site.
SWCLC maintains a regional
advocacy based web site, www.southwestcaliforniaadvocacy.biz,
which is dedicated
to interconnecting all functions of the Council’s
advocacy program. The web pages on the site are available
to members 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The web
site tracks and publishes pertinent legislation that
may impact the economic vitality of the region.
SWCLC also emails alerts, known as eALERTS, to more
than 3,000 members of the Southwest California business
community urging them to take action on important issues
impacting the regionally business climate. eALERTS
are sent monthly or on an as needed basis to inform
the membership on advocacy related topics that need
their attention and provides a convenient process by
which their voice can be heard in Sacramento.
